Acupuncture is an ancient healing modality that supports the innate healing processes of the body-mind system. Continually practiced for thousands of years, in modern medicine it is now considered part of an evidence based system of healthcare.

Most clients consider acupuncture a deeply relaxing experience. During a treatment, hair thin disposable needles are inserted into points on the body where there is a high concentration of nerves and blood vessels. From these points  the neuroendocrine system is easily stimulated allowing the acupuncturist to support the body in healing, resolving symptoms, and reversing the course of some diseases.

In terms of traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture works by correcting the flow of Qi or life-force through the meridians and organs of the body, and balancing the Yin and Yang energies. From the perspective of Western medicine, we know that via the nervous system and the stimulation of key regulatory areas of the brain, acupuncture has a direct effect on our physiology and biochemistry including nerve transmission, metabolic processes, hormones, neurotransmitters, and the release of chemicals involved in pain relief and the reduction of inflammation.

In either model of healthcare, acupuncture naturally encourages the body to return to balance or homeostasis making it effective for a wide variety of health concerns including hormone imbalances, digestive issues, mood disorders, insomnia, fatigue, headaches, all types of body pain, and more. Due to it’s systemic effect, most clients find that they receive many benefits beyond their primary concerns, including an overall improved sense of well-being.

Orthopedic acupuncture combines Traditional Chinese Medicine with Western anatomy  to effectively treat a wide variety of musculoskeletal pain pain and injuries. It primarily works releasing trigger points and stimulating muscle motor points on the affected muscle to reset the muscle to it’s normal healthy state. Additionally, it releases myofascial tissue and increases circulation to the injured muscle and/or joint, stimulating the body’s innate ability to heal, thus reducing pain and inflammation. In appropriate situations,  gentle micro-current may be applied to the needles to enhance the healing effects of acupuncture. It is highly effective in the treatment of pain and injury, and  post-surgical rehabilitation.
